THE TEAM
Who we are
Meet the Executive team at Courageous Films. Courageous Films was founded in 2020 by writer, producer, community organiser, and filmmaker, Siana Bangura off the back of (re)releasing ‘1500 & Counting’, a documentary investigating deaths in custody and police brutality in the UK, originally released in May 2019. She works with Troy James, an award-winning videographer, visual content creator, and ethical filmmaker from South London with almost 10 years of experience creating content for brands, charities, nonprofits and brands looking to improve the world.
OUR STORY
Where we've come from
Courageous Films is an independent social justice film production house, following in the tradition of radical filmmaking collectives that have come before. Founded in 2020 by writer, producer, community organiser and filmmaker, Siana Bangura, the house's first film is the documentary '1500 & Counting'. This landmark work investigates deaths in custody and police brutality in the UK following the death of Sheku Bayoh in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, in May 2015. The film was originally released in May 2019 and re-released in 2020 in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests. All our films aim to inform, enlighten and move people towards action. We aim to investigate, interrogate, and bring to light the insidious nature of state violence at every level, connecting the dots between key issues of social (in)justice and global struggles.
HUMANIFESTO
What we want to achieve
Courageous Films is more than just a film production house. In such uncertain times, having a vision of what freedom looks like is vital as we struggle to overthrow all systems of oppression globally. We understand the role that mediums such as film can play in raising people’s consciousness and so, every film we put out into the world comes with a message and a call to action. We also understand that our political vision is a living, breathing thing and will evolve and grow as we do, responding and adapting to the times as needed.
